The first of two memorial events will be held in Yarnell, Arizona on Sunday
to honor those who suffered during 2013's Yarnell Hill Fire.
members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots died battling the blaze. Chuck Tidey of
the Yarnell and Peeples Valley Chamber of Commerce said Sunday's one-hour event
will honor everyone who was affected by the fire.
"It's not just about
the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots," he said. "It's about our 1,300 residents from
Yarnell and Peeples Valley that had to evacuate for 11 days, and all of the fire
crews that came up to fight the fire." Tidey said several people will be
speaking at the event.
"We're going to have some our local people talk about their experiences, when
they had to evacuate, and came back and everything was gone," he said.
Sunday's event is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Yarnell's Memorial Park. A second
event will be at the same location on Tuesday.
